The Northern Ireland Beekeeper's Association decided to invite interested people to a public meeting to discuss the possibility of forming a Horticultural Society in Banbridge. At their annual show they has been approached by so many people who voiced the wish to have such a society that they felt it only remained for someone to give a lead. Accordingly a meeting was arranged in Bannside Hall on Thursday 22nd March 1962. The guest speaker was to be Mr Norman Martin Secretary of Hillsborough Horticulrural Society.

The first Annual General Meeting of the newly formed society was held on Tuesday 27th March 1962 in Abercorn Primary School.

About Us

The Banbridge and District Horticultural Society has been in existence from 1962. It has been maintained as a vibrant Society by many volunteers, who have served the committee in a variety of roles and capacities. In addition, the 14 committee members are supported at functions by many who are able to devote some time to ensure events run smoothly. The committee meets five to six times a year to plan and organise:

  1. Professional speakers
  2. The annual outing in June
  3. The Annual Show in September, which is the highlight of the year
  4. The AGM in October
  5. Adhoc events which come to our attention from time to time.

Membership is only £20 per person which not only includes all of the above but also a warm welcome to anybody who is interested in all things gardening.
